Intro

Langmuir Crossfire Pro bought used from a sign shop over on John R.

This machine has a machine torch, automatic torch height control and a water table for production work.

Rules

Training will be required, currently under development. This training will closely mirror the training required for the Avid CNC, which in turn is somewhat similar to the Haas.

This machine should be continuously monitored while in use -- it can generate fumes, do damage to eyes and cause fires with little notice.

Instructions

The basic flow for this machine is:

1) Design something with CAD. This can be as complicated as you want (Fusion 360 or Onshape for sheet metal design assistance for instance) or as simple as you want (Inkscape for simple shape cutouts). Export a DXF or SVG.

2) Import the design into SheetCAM to identify which side of the line to put the kerf on, set the start and stop of cuts, etc. Once all of that is set, export to g-code.

3) Import g-code from SheetCAM into CutControl (Langmuir machine control software) to set machine coordinates and locate your work piece. Start cutting!

Maintenance Info

Most of the maintenance is related to the CNC part -- cleaning and greasing the leadscrews, cleaning the bearings on the box tube, etc. The rest is consumable materials on the plasma cutter itself. Beyond that, the water needs to be checked for appropriate bacteria/algae resistance and replaced every so often.

FAQ

ToDo

1) Install permanent air drop for the machine, check air humidity/oil/etc.

2) Install permanent power for the CNC side of the machine

3) Clean out the water table

4) Seal water table leaks

5) Install limit switches (included with purchase, not currently installed)

6) Develop class content for training

7) Inventory consumables for the plasma cutter

8) Determine per-minute rate for using the machine

9) Put together instructions on swapping to the hand torch on the plasma cutter for hand work

10) Create signs for Down/Training/Etc
