Intro

The solid fuel forge is capable of producing extreme steel melting heat of up to 6000F provided a solid fuel source. The standard for forging is pea-sized bituminous coal, a mid purity coal that's good at insulating and coking. Coking is the process by which impurities in the coal are burned off, leaving pure carbon. It's also possible to forge with more pure anthracite coal, however it will burn faster, hotter, and brighter to the point of requiring eye protection to look at it. Charcoal is also a common option with varying quality based on the tree, however it must be wood charcoal as those brickets are just compressed dust and will burn too quickly. Bituminous coal can be purchased from the zone by weight.

Rules

1. You must be authorized to use the forge. This is obviously an extreme fire hazard. 2. ALL STEEL IN THE FORGE IS HOT STEEL. Just because the steel isn't brightly colored anymore, doesn't mean it's safe to hold. It can still burn you very badly. Remember, the most dangerous steel color is black because you can't tell how hot it is. So be safe and always check first. Burns are not fun. 3. NO SYNTHATIC FIBERS. They will give you nasty burns if they get lit on fire. 4. Wear clothing with only natural fibers such as wool or cotton. Leather is really good too. A leather apron and leather work shoes is also highly recommended. 5. The hand holding the hot material should be gloved in a thick leather welding glove. Your hammering hand can be gloved in a thinner leather glove, or be ungloved if you find it easier. 6. Always make sure you have a bucket of water with you when you forge. It's important for quenching, and for avoiding out of control fires.

Roll the forge out onto the B side side-walk right by the courtyard. 2. Make sure the steel sheet covers are properly in place. 3. Hook up one end of the pipe to the hole in the back, and one end to the blower. Plug in the peddle and the variable adjuster. You will probably only need to set it to 1. 4. Load in your coal, and wood and get to work! Us the peddle to run the bellows. 5. If your steel turns into a sparkler, the forge is working perfectly and you're getting your steel too hot.
