About Me
I am, I guess, a self-proclaimed "Jill-of-all-trades"! Over the years, I have had a lot of experiences. I spent most of my teen years involved with the pizza industry. I worked for a few pizza companies between the ages of 15 and 21. Starting out as someone that answered phones, I made my way up to manager and eventually became a Recovery Manager. I have respect for our food workers, with that said, my life took me down the path of driving commercial vehicles... which I adored, but it was so unhealthy for me, both in health and my creative soul! I ended up driving commercial vehicles as an owner-operator in the expediting industry. I was running freight between the US and Canada. In 2007, I stepped away from the road while I employed other commercial drivers to operate my equipment.
During this time, I had the pleasure of working for Apple at Twelve Oaks Mall in Novi, MI. I got to explore my creativity and I enrolled at Baker College in Auburn Hills, MI studying Computer Science and Graphic Design. I met my future wife and "partner-in-crime", Amy. I continued to drive commercially for many years. Amy spent time with me on my semi traveling all over the country while she furthered her education. She now holds a Master's Degree in Education, she is an Instructional Designer/Business Owner/rockstar.
In my attempt to leave the trucking industry behind, I studied Aviation at Jackson College while I worked for FedEx locally hauling double trailers to Maumee, OH every day. I found out that I was diabetic from the 4 or 5 years on the road at that point... we've lived in a few places over the years as well, including Ann Arbor, MI, Royal Oak, MI, Jacksonville, FL, Tampa, FL, Raleigh, NC, and Seattle, WA. I personally have also lived in San Francisco, Houston, and Atlanta.
Eventually, I was injured in 2013 and never returned to driving trucks. I instead, again studied web development and computer programming. I was tinkering with different development boards and learning all that I could. It eventually led me to i3 Detroit where I was briefly a member and met an amazing community of makers in the Metro Detroit area. I started working with WordPress, also trying to become a full-stack web dev. In 2017 I really lost focus of that desire to do web dev because the FAA decided to make Part 107 licenses available, and I obtained my commercial drone license. I had already completed that aviation education, so it was a no-brainer to make some money with it! I have been flying drones commercially for 6 years at this point, doing all of my creative work under Cozyartz Digital Media.
My wife and I have moved our business, Cozyartz Media Group, to Battle Creek, MI. We offer a complete multi-media solution to clients and businesses in the Battle Creek area and beyond. Although we are new to the area, we were born and raised in Michigan and have been in this industry for 7 years. One division of our company specializes in multi-media design/production and editing of photography/videography including commercial drone operations, graphics, instructional design, and web development. We also use a number of technologies to fabricate a variety of products for awards, business marketing needs including sports apparel, memory specialization, memorialization, signs, visual graphics, and much more. Our shop technologies include laser engraving/cutting, dye-sublimation printing, heat-press, 24" commercial vinyl plotter, handheld CNC cutter, and a complete woodshop for custom fabrication. We do all of our design work in Adobe Creative Suite.
