  • There's a planning channel called #potlock on Slack
Saturday, November 3
Halloween Party, start planning your costume now (Planning currently happening on #party-planning on slack)

Amend Prohibited Activities List

  • POC: Mike
  • I can't find any record, other than in our collective institutional knowledge (i.e. word of mouth, old mailing list posts), that says "Don't spray paint on the pavement outside because it will really piss off the landlord."
  • Let's fix that.
  • I'd like to add the following to Standing_rules#Prohibited_Activities:
"The use of any spray paint or other product which discolors or leaves stains on any work surface, floor, wall, or exterior pavement without adequate protection of the surface such as a drop cloth."

(Sec: Crap, I realize now that did a bad job capturing the discussion here as I was a part of it)

  • Further discussion on the mailing list

Camera Policy change

  • Cleanup camera policy, close some loopholes in rules as written, and give a way for people to take footage out of the camera system as long as they have permission from everyone in that recording.
  • Full text of changes pending.
  • Mtfurlan (talk) 13:40, 18 September 2018 (EDT)
  • Art suggests we incorporate some kind of standard photography release
  • Paul: What about commercial usage of our security camera footage?
  • David: thinks in that case, 'Goodbye!'
  • Nate: The reason this came up is a member brought up whether they could use the camera system footage to generate a timelapse of them working on a project, can the member take that footage and what needs to be done when other people appear in it, having to blur them out
  • David: And then what happens when the faciities aren't available on site, and someone needs to make a copy to sanitize off site
  • Art: There should be a couple designated people who do that before the footage gets removed
  • Lego: We do have the full adobe creative suite
  • Nate: Another aspect of this was that the wording of the camera policy doesn't specify what access to the system means, whether its watching the video or using the computer running it for other purposes, since the policy was written for when it was running on a DVR
  • Mark: and access to the server the camera system is required to do a lot of other work here.
  • David: what about the creepy factor of anyone here being able to watch the live footage
  • Mark: That's been in the policy for a long time, and thinks thats OK.
  • Matt C: Discussion on this should continue online.

Zone updates

Craft Room

  • Progress report on new sewing things
  • In the space and in process of getting set up:
    • new iron (installed in classroom)
    • Kam snap press (in craft room, privately owned on loan)
    • New mannequin, Leo (Leonardo Decapitated)
    • Mannequin bases are getting casters for ease of moving and storage
  • Sewing has been receiving some donations for either a newer embroidery machine or general Dept fund
  • Designer SE needs a ride to the machine repair. The guy is pretty affordable but also hard to catch. Best time to drop off is around 6pm. He's in Detroit, near Davison. He's out on repair calls, so maybe he can come here, it's possible. But it's down until it gets seen. It should be minor repair, but important one.

Fab Lab

  • No major updates

Injection Molding

  • Successfully ran mold #2 for the Troy Benzene Bot's First Robotics tank tread. This is a project developed by CNC Zone Co-coordinator Jim Kemp and is named EKGAR. "Every Kid Gets A Robot" The concept is to get corporate sponsorship and use a portion of all sales of the robotic tanks to fund robots and training for lower income schools.
  • The tank treads will be used for a kick starter campaign to fund the tooling for the rest of the robot. You can see the prototype in the CNC Zone.
  • The second little molding machine in the zone was purchased by i3 members Jim Kemp, Thad Johnson and Mark Metcalf. It will be used to mold tank treads for the kick starter campaign. Controls for it are being developed by Jim Kemp and this knowledge will be used to build controls for the larger machine in the zone.
  • We are going to give the larger machine a final testing next week to validate the mechanicals and then if all is good Jim Kemp will build the controls.

Laser Zone

  • Both lasers are up and running, and from most accounts they are cutting well.
  • Thanks Evan for fixing the chiller. It's power switch kind of self destructed.
  • Thanks Coogle for getting Wolverine running again. The high voltage power supply blew and was replaced.

Media Lab

  • We now have some decent speakers on the computer for audio work

Wood Shop

  • Sean is working with Greg to clear up space in the short term project storage in the Wood Shop because it's turning into long term project abandonment.
  • And if you've left any jigs there that aren't labeled as to what they are, get those out of there.

Space Project Updates

  • Remember the Member Storage pylon move, clear that out before October 20.

i3 MotorSports

  • David: we should really do something about that this year.
